Corleone’s

Corleone’s Trattoria is an authentic Italian restaurant located in Historic Downtown Savannah.  My husband and I have passed it on multiple occasions, and it is always crowded.  We finally decided to make a reservation for one of our date nights.  We are so glad that we did.   The night we went was so crowded that the host had me sit in his chair, because there was a line out the door and he said he never has the chance to sit anyway.  Although, I didn’t make any reservations, I was able to talk to some of the other people waiting to be seated and soak up the atmosphere.  A restaurant’s ambiance can be as important as the food itself and the buzz in the air had me excited about the food.

When perusing the menu there were so many authentic Italian dishes that it was difficult to decide what we were going to order.  For appetizers we started with garlic shrimp and bruschetta.  The garlic shrimp was cooked perfectly.  These fresh, jumbo shrimps were pink indicating they were not overcooked and covered in the most delicious spicy garlic butter sauce. The sauce was thick, but not to thick and infused with fresh garlic and parsley.  The bruschetta was a traditional tomato mix served with fresh basil, fresh mozzarella, and balsamic glaze.  The appetizers were just the precursor to what was an amazing dinner.

For dinner we had an artisan flatbread.  We went with the Italian artisan flatbread which boast a marinara base, pepperoni, salami, and sausage.  In addition, we had a lobster and shrimp stuffed ravioli and veal parmesan.  The ravioli was as advertised, stuffed with fresh lobster and shrimp which were cooked to exactness, they were not chewy or rubbery and the taste was out of this world.  The veal parmesan was tender, the breading just right, and fried well, it was served over linguine, and topped with marinara and mozzarella.  My husband and I were overjoyed with this meal.

Corleone’s is a must for the food enthusiast. We now understand why there is always a crowd.  It seems that the libations were also good judging from the crowded bar area.  The environment was fun and festive and the food outstanding.  Although they were busy the staff was attentive and added to the overall experience.
